Blepharospasm
Blepharospasm is a condition where the patient suffers from frequent episodes of involuntary blinking and winking of the eyelid and/or cheek muscles.
This condition, while not life threatening, can be progressive and very debilitating to patients. Patients are typically affected randomly but diet and other health related conditions can contribute to it. Very stressful events can trigger or worsen ongoing episodes.
Being evaluated by a Neurologist is done by patients to get a true diagnosis. The most effective treatment is the injection of Botox into the offending muscles to "quiet" them for a period of time.
Dr. Sarcia specializes in treating the delicate tissues around the eye and will formulate a Botox treatment plan with you in order to help you find relief.
Botox therapy is not permanent and will typically be repeated by patients 3-4 times a year.
Surgical procedures do exist to address certain aspects of this condition but are typically reserved for the most severe of cases. Dr. Sarcia will discuss this with you and help you decide if you are a candidate.
Insurance does typically cover the injection of Botox in this instance when certain conditions are met:
-
Patients have met with a Neurologist and recieved the diagnosis of blepharospasm.
-
Patients have been evaluated in the office by Dr. Sarcia to determine a treatment plan.
The treatment is performed after approval from your health insurance provider is obtained.
