Skin Cancer and Reconstruction

Surgery to remove skin cancer near or on the eyelid requires specialized techniques to maintain the natural function and appearance of the eyelids.

Dr. Sarcia uses very specialized techniques to remove and/or repair skin cancer excisions, which may include complex closures,  skin grafts and flaps. The reconstruction is often performed the same day following Mohs’ skin cancer removal.

Generally outpatient, skin cancer treatment is most commonly performed under local anesthesia with mild sedation or general anesthesia depending on the patient's preference.

You may engage in light activity the day after your surgery. Depending on any accompanying procedures, a return to more normal activity may take 2-4 weeks.

Proper skincare and sun protection including sunglasses are essential during healing.

While results can be long-term, nothing can fully prevent additional skin cancers. Scheduled skin surveillance is always recommended.

Staged procedures may be required to complete a reconstructive endeavor and to reduce scarring.

Correction of your eyelids is typically covered by your insurance; please discuss your potential benefits and precertification for surgery with our staff.
