Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
Lower eyelid blepharoplasty aims to restore a youthful and natural appearance to the lower eyelid, and lower eyelid/cheek junction.
Cosmetic rejuvenation of the lower eyelid region, or lower eyelid blepharoplasty, restores a smooth, natural contour to the area beneath the eyes, by correcting crepiness, puffiness and other age-related changes resulting in a more youthful appearance. Lower eyelid surgery may also improve a pronounced tear trough — a depression running from the inner corner of the eyes to the cheek. The midface can also be improved with a cheek lift or midface lift which can be performed for patients with malar bags or drooping of the midface.
Dr. Sarcia uses specialized techniques to correct the lower eyelid, including removing excess skin and fat (if present), or performs a repositioning of fat to avoid a hollow appearance. In order to maintain the natural shape of the eyelids, lower lid support may be needed in the form of a canthopexy or canthoplasty, where the lower lid muscle and the corner of the lid are tightened.
Generally outpatient, lower eyelid blepharoplasty is most commonly performed either under general or local anesthesia with sedation.
You may engage in light activity the day after your surgery. Depending on any accompanying procedures, a return to more normal activity may take 1-2 weeks. Your appearance will gradually refine over the following 4-6 weeks.
Proper skincare and sun protection including sunglasses, are essential during healing.
Results may be long-term, turning back the clock on your appearance from 8 to 10 years, however, the natural aging will continue after your eyelid surgery.
